EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATIONS IN F&B INDUSTRY

COURSE OUTLINE

  1. Demonstrate use of appropriate language for stating and seeking information (e.g. to identify, describe, ask for information, state needs, command, agree or disagree, ask permission)
  2. Demonstrate use of appropriate language to influence or persuade  (e.g. to caution, request, advise, persuade, negotiate)
  3. Demonstrate use of appropriate language for routine social scenarios (e.g. to greet, introduce, thank, apologise, compliment)
  4. Use simple requests for repetition or simple clarification
  5. Give or receive instructions, including commands and polite requests (e.g. Do that; Will you do this?)
  6. Use appropriate vocabulary to express basic personal needs, feelings (e.g. happy, hungry, tired)
  7. Respond to simple questions about personal information (e.g. name, address, phone number)
  8. Talk about personal or familiar topics (e.g. about self, familiar persons and objects, and personal experiences)
  9. Understand advertisements, labels and price tags
  10. Understand information about work-related topics
  11. Understand information or directions to locate goods
  12. Handle telephone calls, leave messages on answering machines and understand recorded messages
  13. Use effective telephone techniques (formulaic expressions – e.g. Hello, How are you, Goodbye)
  14. Read, understand and follow directions on public signs and in buildings
  15. Request for, provide or explain directions
  16. Recognise the various modes of transportation in the community, and understand traffic information
  17. Understand transportation schedules and fares
  18. Understand and use maps
  19. Understand clock time (in 12 and 24 hr formats)
  20. Demonstrate understanding of the months of the year and the days of the week
  21. Understand general work-related vocabulary (e.g. experience, night shift)
  22. Understand general work-place policies and job manuals
  23. Understand work-related signs, charts, diagrams, symbols, forms and procedures
  24. Follow, explain and respond appropriately to instructions
  25. Understand job-related workplace announcements and notices
  26. Give updates on job-related activities, update status of assigned tasks and other issues related to job completion
  27. Communicate work-related information to others
  28. Report incidents and urgent situations
